Frequently Asked Questions

What do your weekly events look like?

Very simple formula: We meet at a brewery or bar, knock out a three mile-ish run, and afterward hang out and socialize over beverages.

Where and when do you meet each week?

We rotate throughout Salt Lake City’s many outstanding breweries and bars, rarely going to the same location twice in any given year. Our current schedule is every Tuesday with the run starting at 6:30pm. After returning to the bar, most people hang out for an hour or two.

How do I know where you will be each week?

The best way to know where we’re going each week is to check on our social media (most of our focus is on Instagram, Facebook, and Meetup currently). You can get to our various social media accounts via the quick link buttons at the top of this webpage. If you aren't much of a social media person we also display our Instagram feed at the bottom of this webpage, so our next run is typically listed there, as well.

What is the running route each week?

The running route varies each week, because we are at a different location each week, but the planned distances are always about three miles. We usually do an “out and back” route so you can run/walk/crawl as far as you want to go and turn around to go back to the brewery/bar whenever you want.

Am I a good enough runner to fit in with this group?

YES! We have runners of all levels and abilities. We have a small handful of people that are serious runners, but most of our folks are casual or beginner runners looking for an excuse to get out of the house, get a little exercise, and have some drinks and fun conversations with nice people. Many people choose to walk instead of run, and some folks don’t even leave the bar!

How many people usually show up?

Typically, around 30 people—the number of runners fluctuates with weather and locations. Please check out our social media if you’d like to get a sense of our numbers on a week-to-week basis. It is rarely below 20 people and can be as high as 60 in rare cases like season opening runs.

Do you charge a membership fee?

No, we do not do memberships, and our weekly runs are completely free (aside from whatever food/drinks you partake in from the bar/brewery… those are on you! 🙂).

Do you run through the winter season?

We have taken a break during the winter season the past couple years picking things back up in the spring. However, several members of the group tend to meet informally and unofficially over the winter as more of a social thing, but it's not organized by CPR.

Do you run through the heat of the summer?

Yes, despite our better judgment, we continue to run through the summer. 🙂

What’s a “Flatliner”?

It is the segment of our group that never leaves the bar (our CPR branding contains a heart beat wave... get it!?). They provide a valuable service of holding down seats and watching people’s stuff. If you want to attend with your partner, but your partner isn’t a runner, this is always a great option for them as the Flatliners are always a lot of fun.

Why did you start this group?

People getting together to run is not a new concept. People meeting up at pubs is not a new concept. In fact, people meeting up at pubs to run is not a new concept. That said, as we looked around Salt Lake, we didn't feel there was an existing group that was doing quite what we had in mind and there was an opportunity to meet that need in the community.

We are a group that:

  • Doesn’t have a membership requirement

  • Doesn't charge for attendance

  • Supports the local craft brewery and bar scene

  • Is not focused on elite athletes

  • Features alcohol but has a culture of drinking responsibly

  • Is not primarily established as a dating group

  • Is not directly affiliated with one pub or bar

  • Welcomes runners and non-runners

  • Is attractive to people new to the area who are just looking to connect with the community

If this sounds like you, please come out!

Is this a good group for dating purposes?

CPR is not intended to be a dating group–it’s meant to be a casual, low pressure social group. We work hard to have a culture that isn’t a fraternity/sorority or meat market. Now, we understand that sometimes people will hit it off, and that’s perfectly fine, but that is not the intended vibe of the group.

What are the ages of the folks that attend?

Most are middle aged 30s-50s and that's really who we gear things for, but our attendees span from recent college grads through retired people. You never know who will show up each week. Feel free to check out our social media to get a sense.

Are your runs dog friendly?

Well... the RUNS are, but often the locations are not. It really depends on the location chosen in any given week--some have patios that allow dogs and some do not so it's up to you to determine that before you come. The group itself is very dog friendly and it is not uncommon for folks to bring their dogs if the location is conducive to it.

I'm planning to come for the first time by myself. Will people talk to me?

One thing our group is particularly proud of is we do a pretty good job making new people feel comfortable. If our board members see a new person, we always do our best to chat with you and introduce you to others.

Do people eat at your weekly runs?

If the location has food, typically about a fourth of folks do end up eating there. Again, this is dependent on the location serving food, and not all of the locations we go to do. Please check this out before you come if this is important to you.

How will I recognize your group at the bar/brewery?

I promise you, it will not be hard to figure it out. 🤣 We are all in a lot of running gear, lots of CPR shirts and hats, and pretty talkative and loud. We also look for people in running gear, so we often find you before you find us.

Is this group friendly to non-drinkers as well?

Being a pub running group it should be expected that most of our attendees will be drinking. This said, we do have several folks that regularly attend that do not drink, and our group is very supportive of anyone's choice to be sober. We proudly maintain a responsible and non-aggressive culture toward alcohol consumption. If you think our group looks fun and you'd like to attend, please come out!

Are you a non-profit?

Long answer short, no, we are not--being a non-profit required us to do more required meetings and paperwork, and we didn't want to do any more work than necessary. If this group ever does anything more than cost us money, and we get more volunteer help (that is willing to help with the NOT FUN stuff... you know who you are), we may revisit this. Now, if you want the long-version answer to this question, just ask Sam. 🤣

Who is in charge of this group?

See the board bio!

How do I get in touch with you to ask you a question?

Well, you can shoot us a note using our Contact Us form, or you can also message us over social media (particularly Facebook and Instagram which we check the most).
